Saint Patrick High School Students Step Up to Lead The CPR Ready Generation™
A successful Founding School launch showed what can happen when students are given the opportunity to lead.
The CPR Ready Generation™ officially came to life at Saint Patrick High School earlier this month—and the students showed exactly why this movement was built around them.
Saint Patrick High School was recently announced as one of the first Founding Schools of The CPR Ready Generation™, a new national student-led movement focused on helping young people move from simply being aware of and/or trained in CPR and AED use, to having the confidence and readiness to act when someone needs help.
But the real story began after the announcement.
During the school’s August 12–14 launch, Saint Patrick students stepped forward, got involved, asked questions and began taking ownership of what CPR readiness could look like in their own school community.
At the center of that effort was teacher and administrator Michael Glynn, whose leadership helped introduce the movement to students and student leaders at Saint Patrick High School, and embracing it as something students could begin making their own.
Student Leadership Made the Difference
The CPR Ready Generation™ was built on a simple belief: students don’t just participate in school culture. They help create it.
Saint Patrick High School offered an early example of what that can look like in practice.
Rather than treating CPR and AED awareness as another lesson students were expected to sit through, the launch invited students into the conversation.
It challenged them to think about a much more personal question:
If someone needed help, would you be ready to step forward?
That question is at the heart of The CPR Ready Generation™.
CPR & AED awareness and education gives people an essential skill. This movement is designed to strengthen what happens after—building the confidence, identity, peer support and culture that can help someone actually use those skills when the moment comes.
At Saint Patrick High School, that message connected.
Students didn't simply hear about a national movement. They had an opportunity to become some of the first students helping build it.
And Glynn's leadership was an important part of creating the environment for that to happen.
More Than a Successful School Event
The Saint Patrick High School launch matters far beyond one school or one week.
The CPR Ready Generation™ is designed to grow through student participation and student leadership. High School and College students share the message, invite other students in and eventually take on larger roles as ambassadors, school leaders and mentors.
The goal isn't to create another CPR certification program or add another requirement for schools.
It's to create a culture around the training that already exists.
A culture where knowing CPR matters.
Where knowing where the AED is matters.
Where talking about readiness is normal.
And it doesn't mean everyone has to be CPR certified.
Helping might mean calling 911. Finding someone who knows CPR.
Or simply being the first person willing to say, "I'm going to help".
That's what being ready means to us.
Saint Patrick High School demonstrated what that idea can look like when a school opens the door and strong student leadership takes it from there.
A Founding School Helping Set the Standard
As one of the first Founding Schools in the country, Saint Patrick HS is helping establish what The CPR Ready Generation™ can become.
The inaugural national group also includes Huntley High School in Illinois, Jackson Hole High School in Wyoming, Fowlerville High School in Michigan and SABER College in Florida. WorldPoint serves as the movement's Founding Sponsor, with Defibtech joining as its First Founding Industry Partner.
Each school will build the movement in its own way, but the principle remains the same:
Students lead. Schools support them.
And readiness becomes something visible that students carry with them beyond the classroom.

It wasn't successful simply because an event happened.
It was successful because students stepped into it.
